A few of my faves (a very non-exhaustive list): Rest Is Resistance by Tricia Hersey, Liberated to the Bone by Susan Raffo, Mirrors in the Earth by Asia Suler, Body Astrology by Claire Gallagher, Refusing Compulsory Sexuality by Sherronda J. Brown, A Thousand Ways to Pay Attention by Rebecca Schiller. I've added you on Goodreads and most of my reviews are here: https://avoryfaucette.com/category/book-reviews/ ❤️

I loved this sentence "This book ushered me from the greys of post-defense fog into the pure colour of a spring spent more awake to life." Looking forward to that fog lifting for me this year too.

I read 49 books last year, including my first foray into Simone de Beauvoir's work (The Woman Destroyed).

It will, Jasmine! wishing this for you -- you're so close. (weirdly for me the post-defense phase was even foggier than the pre- for a bit, maybe the comedown of cumulative exhaustion. but the pure colour afterwards was worth it). 49, wow! what was your fave? I haven't read The Woman Destroyed, but I also forayed into de Beauvoir (The Second Sex) this year--it's a tome, will take me years haha

Pure colour is so beautiful! I love how you put words together.

Oh man, too hard for an overall favourite but here are some favourites from different categories!

For gentle self help and 'productivity' advice that isn't too wanky, Gretchen Rubin's Better Than Before.

Fiction: No Hard Feelings by Genevieve Novak. Funny but devastatingly relatable rom-com set in Melbourne

Poetry: What Kind of Woman by Kate Baer. A collection of poems, mostly centred on the experience of being a woman over lifestages.

I started with The Woman Destroyed because I found the short stories a more accessible way to read her work!

PS sorry for the late reply, haven't been on substack much!
